Happy Pi Day, people! March 14, 3.14, see the connection? If you don't, please write the first million digits of pi for punishment. Just kidding!
If you knew about my blog in 5th grade, you would remember my prize-less contests. Inspired by the Indian caste system, I have come up with a brand-new contest format.
Click
here for more information on the caste system.
Basically, I will give you a certain number of Eco-points for each contest, depending on how well you did. I will then add this to your Eco-point total. Based on your point total, you will be put in a certain "caste". Every once in a while, I will send prizes to everybody, the prizes based on your caste. Now, in addition to motivation to get Eco-points, submitting an entry to any contest will help the world. Each contest is oriented in some fashion to making the world a better place, so even if you think your entry is a bad idea, it will benefit everybody. Therefore, any submission will be helpful!
I will also have different difficulty levels for each contest, so depending on how involved you want to get, your needs will be met.
If you have any questions, ask me.
Here are the castes:
0 points - Hobbyist
50 points - Beginner
100 points - Rookie
150 points - Amateur
200 points - World hugger
300 points - Advanced
400 points - Expert
500 points - Master
1000 points - Eco-Ultimate
Here's the first contest:
The year is 2020. You are a parasitic disease expert that discovered a parasite that will threaten the entire world. It is spread by blood-sucking insects and is infecting 300-500 million people each year. The death rate is 33% and you can barely treat anybody in time before they die. You have a decent treatment, but there are too many people to treat. The biggest problem is that the blood-sucking insects are almost impossible to get rid of and can't be controlled. Come up with the most outrageous solution to cure this disease.
For people who want to get more in-depth:
This parasite multiplies itself in red blood cells and infects them. This parasite makes the victims tired and weary, and then makes them drowsy, vomit, and potentially kills them off. This disease is transmitted only by these blood-sucking insects, which bite humans at night. Unfortunately, poor countries are the most infected, and they don't have the resources to treat it. People don't have shelters or protection, so they are greatly exposed.
For the people who really want a challenge:
This disease has evolved to cause brain infections, kidney and liver failure, and the destruction of blood cells. The countries infected don't have enough money to pay for treatment and the vaccine is still developing due to the complexity of this virus.
Again, you are looking for an creative but effective way to treat this disease. Thank you for your help!
