Hi Townsend! My Entry (Master):
ReplyDeleteMy will be the first in the evolution of a new kingdom known as Maorine alienae, or marine creatures that originated on a different planet but have been bred to live on Earth.
Name: Banana Cream Sea Turtle (Cream Turtle)
Scientific Name: Donte Eate Meinr (Pyrom, an alien language, for "Don't Wanna Eat Me")
Kingdom: Alienae
Habitat: Shallow to Moderately deep salt waters(One was even found in Salt Lake of Utah!)
Location: Oceans and Saltwater Seas around the world.
Niche: This Turtle has adapted to eating especially toxic jellyfish, Lionfish, and certain types of Algae. This has a neutral impact on the fish population because although some fish eat algae, jellyfish and lionfish also eat fish. This diet also makes it poisonous, and no other natural predator or parasite can infect it without toxins within its immune system killing it off. However, it breeds very slowly, which keep its number to a bare 10,000 (A protected species).
Predators: No Natural Predators-Humans admire its unique shell.
Self Defense: In addition to its shell which is one of the hardest of all turtles, it has poisonous meat and a poisonous bite, because of its diet.
Diet: Sea Jellies, Lionfish, and certain types of algae.
Size: These turtles can grow fairly large, with an average length of 3 feet (Shell is 2 feet-Armored Head sticks out very far). They are 1 foot wide and 6 inches thick at adulthood.. At birth, they are 1 foot long, 5 inches wide, and 3 inches thick. Their shell, connected at the backbone, grows with their body. The Largest Turtle found was 4 foot 1 inch long, and 1 foot 6 inches wide. Males are Slightly Larger than females.
Weight: About 20 pounds on average for the adult, and 2 pounds for the newborns.
Description: They have an Oval shell that is usually light to dark blue or green and is translucent and reflects light. Their head protrudes from their shell, giving them the nickname, "Giraffe of the Sea".
They hatch from relatively large eggs that their mother lays in the water, usually along coral reefs or rocks. These Turtles lay eggs only once in their life, and about 15 at a time. They have a very strong eggshell. They are on their own from birth, and usually stay near the coral reef for food until they are big enough to fend for themselves. They reach adulthood in 1 year. They eat their food with their rough jaws, being immune to most poisons. They are not known to attack humans, but they will if provoked. On average, 5 people die of turtle bites. They are at risk to illegal poaching.
I hope I do well! If I realized I forgot Something I might post the correction later!
Amazing job, Joshua! You get 47 points, which moves you up to beginner rank. Prizes will be given out soon, so get excited.
ReplyDeleteThanks Townsend!
DeleteHey Townsend! it's Jackson. I'm going to try to do a master but it definitely won't be as well done as Joshua's.
ReplyDeleteName: Wooden block fish
Scientific Name: Skeffolaterotorfus meaning: Weird, scary fish that no one wants to eat or touch!
Kingdom: The Wooden block fish is from the animalia kingdom.
Habitat: They like to swim around docks where they can blend in with their surroundings. That's where they get the name, they look like wooden blocks.
Location: They are usually found swimming in shallow water in salt water areas. There have only been a couple of wood block fish found in deep waters. Within a weak, they were dead, because they have no self defense, no speed, and no counter-shading. The only way they survive is buy blending in with wood, which is hard to find in the open ocean.
Niche: Their nickname is the good natured fish because they are constantly doing commensalism (where one species benefits and the other isn't effected). They are always swimming above other fish around the docks so the fisherman only see floating blocks of wood, predators too.
Predators: Sharks, Sea lions, basically any carnivore that's smart enough to figure out that they aren't floating blocks of wood.
Self-Defense: As I said before, absolutely no Self-Defense whatsoever.
Diet: Seaweed, seaweed, and seaweed. Sometimes small bits of sand when their oversized mouth is eating seaweed, seaweed, and seaweed.
Size: Their size varies from floating logs to small twigs.
So does their weight.
Description: These endangered species are highly at risk of being illegally caught by angry fisherman who have had a bad day of no fish. The bigger ones are usually illegally caught so log cabins can be made. To learn more about this almost extinct species go to http://www.saveapoorhelplesssadlittlefish.org/
Sorry, I accidentally spelled week wrong at the beginning.
DeleteJackson, you get a score of 44! And don't worry, it's all about having fun. If you want to, enter the first contest as well.
